About Carte Grise Juste

Radif Partners

Publisher of an independent French registration-certificate calculator · regional tax, CO₂ malus, weight malus

Carte Grise Juste is a calculator published by Radif Partners. It answers one question, the one people ask just before buying a vehicle or moving house in France: how much will the registration certificate (the “carte grise”) cost, and why that amount?

A calculation, not a paperwork service

The site files no application, collects no documents and charges nothing. You apply for the certificate free of charge on the official ANTS website and only pay the taxes there. We say so on every page because many sites showing a registration price actually earn a service fee added on top, and do not always make that clear.

Why box by box

The amount of a certificate is the sum of five boxes printed at the bottom of the document, Y1 to Y5, plus two maluses for a new or imported car. A single total lets you check nothing. Showing every line lets you compare with what you are asked to pay and see where a difference comes from: a region that changed its rate, a car that has just turned ten, an exemption that has ended.

Where the figures come from

The rules come from the French tax code on goods and services (CIBS) on Légifrance and from service-public.gouv.fr. Each of the eighteen regional fiscal horsepower rates is the one published by the State’s official simulator; for 5 of them we also read the regional document that set it, and the method page says plainly where that text was not found and which start dates remain unverified. Every value lives in a single parameter file read by both the calculator and the texts, so a corrected figure changes everywhere at once.

Funding and data

The site is free and needs no account. What you type stays in your browser: no plate, no document number, no address is sent to us. Anonymous audience figures tell us which pages are useful; if advertising ever appears, it will never sit above a calculation or be presented as advice.

Why an English version

Every page exists in English for people registering a vehicle in France, often an imported one, who meet an opaque vocabulary: certificate of conformity, tax clearance (quitus fiscal), fiscal horsepower. French terms are explained and amounts stay in euros.
